What is Early Literacy?

Early Literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. Research shows that children get ready to read in a variety of ways years before they start school (right from birth even!). Our Early Literacy section gives parents and caregivers the information and ideas they need to help children prepare for school, as well as encourage literacy habits that build a confident and lifelong reader.
