August Nonfiction Reading Challenge 2018

Summer Reading Fun continues in August with the Children’s Non-Fiction Challenge! 

Children will read books at their own reading level from different subject areas.

Earn coupons, treasure chest prizes, a chance to win the jar of treats, entry into the grand prize drawing, AND finishers can choose a free book to keep! 

The Non-Fiction Challenge runs from August 1 to August 31. Pick up your challenge sheet at the Youth Desk anytime in August!

Logs must be turned in by Friday, August 31 at 5:00pm.

Summer Reading ENDS SOON

Summer Reading is ending soon!

Saturday, July 28 is the last day to turn in reading logs for kids and teens. 

FINAL PARTIES

Children who participated in the Summer Reading Program are welcome to join us at our finale party on Monday, July 30 from 5:00-7:00pm at the H2O Spray Zone in Tattan Park: 1901 North Carlson St. Westland, MI 48185.

Teens who completed the Summer Reading Program are invited to a special after hours party on Friday, August 3 from 6:00-8:00pm at the library. A permission slip is REQUIRED to attend.

Meet Up and Eat Up This Summer!

Free, healthy meals are available to Michigan children over the summer break under the Michigan Department of Education’s Meet Up and Eat Up program. Meals are available for children 18 and younger.  At no cost to your family, these meals are full of healthy fruits and veggies to help fuel kids all summer long. See our Meet Up and Eat Up brochure for more information and a list of Westland locations providing free meals this summer.

Live Farm Animals at the Library

Saturday, May 19

11am-12pm

The farm is coming to the library!  

The whole family will enjoy coming to see a pony, a donkey, goats, sheep, alpaca, bunnies, ducks, and a baby cow. When you’re done, browse our collection of books to learn more about each animal. This program will be outside, so dress appropriately. 

No registration required.

Money Smart Week

Money Smart Week is April 21-28, 2018!

We will have all kinds of fun and free programs for kids in celebration of Money Smart Week, a week dedicated to teaching kids how to manage their money. 

  • Kids receive a FREE book during Sleepytime Storytime - Money Smart Week on Monday, April 23
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Math Jedi takes place on Tuesday, April 23.

Also, during the month of April kids can vote at the youth desk and answer the question "If we gave you $10 what would you do with it? Spend it, Save it, or Give it"

March is Reading Month!

One of the ways we are celebrating is to have a Family Storytime every Wednesday from 10am-10:30am! Come enjoy 30 minutes of books, rhymes, and songs with our fun and friendly youth staff!  We will end each session with a simple craft that goes along with the Theme of the Week! No registration required.
