Library News

November is National Novel Writing Month, and the Public Library of Westland will be holding events for teens and adults. The goal of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short) is to write an entire novel (50,000 words) in one month, starting November 1st!
We're having a Kick-Off Event for teens and adults at the Biggby Coffee on Ford Road at 7pm tonight (Wed., October 26th). For more information on National Novel Writing Month, visit the NaNoWriMo website or the Young Writers Program site. To see when the library is holding write-ins during the month of November, please go to our Adult Events and Teen Events pages.

Join us as we romp around and listen to humorous stories starring our favorite pink friends-pigs! Prepare to get dirty during the edible craft. You might accidently get “mud” on you!
When: Saturday, October 22
Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm
Where: Children’s Activity Room
Specifics: Registration not required but due to limited space the first 16 children will be admitted.
Kids dress in your best costume and come listen to spooky (but not too spooky) stories and get tasty treats during the Trick or Treating after each Storytime. Mondays Family Storytime will also be followed by a craft.
- Family Storytime: October 24 at 6:30 pm
- Toddler Tales: October 25 at 10 & 11 am
- Preschool Storytime: October 27 at 10:30 am
- Babytime Storytime: October 29 at 10:30 am

Dr. Sheila Collins recently started work as the new Director of the William P. Faust Westland Public Library. Dr. Collins has come to us by way of Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and the Lima Public Library in Ohio. Prior to earning her Master of Library and Information Science degree, Dr. Collins received her law degree (and before that, she owned and ran a dairy farm). Dr. Collins has a great love for libraries and is excited about our future. Meet Dr. Collins at our 15th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, November 5th.
In addition to Writers Club and the Writers Workshop, we are adding a monthly Screenwriting Workshop for all patrons interested in learning more about writing for the big and small screens. Drew Tierney, a novelist and screenwriter, will lead our program. The first workshop will be on Thursday, October 13th at 7 p.m. Sign up on our Events page or stop by the Reference Desk.
