Food for Fines begins

Short Title:
Food for Fines

From April 1 - April 30, Gleaners Community Food Bank, St. Mary's Outreach Center, and the Public Library of Westland are partnering to alleviate hunger in Southeastern Michigan.

How can you help? Bring nonperishable, in-date goods to the Circulation Desk at the Public Library of Westland and receive $2 per item off of your fines (up to $20 total, lost or damaged items not eligible).

What should I bring? All in-date, nonperishable items are accepted. Nutritious nonperishable items like canned meats (including tuna, stews, and soups),  and canned fruits and vegetables are in greatest demand. Single-size cereal boxes are also needed for children's lunches and weekend bags.

If you don't have fines but would like to donate, please visit any of the service desks in the library or stop by Biggby Coffee or the Westland Friendship Center and deposit your items in one of their donation-only boxes. All items dated June 2016 or after are accepted.

High-need items include: canned fruits and veggies, tuna fish, peanut butter, healthy cereals, heart healthy soups and stews, canned pasta, and beans. No glass items, please.

If you have any questions, please contact the Public Library of Westland at (734) 326-6123 or stop by any of our service desks.

Event Date:
