Spring 2020 Closure Information

5/4/2020: Library Closure extended through May 28

Subsequent to the Governor's most recent executive order, the Library Closure is extended through May 28, 2020.

4/28/2020: DUE DATES EXTENDED; IGNORE OVERDUE NOTICES; FINES WILL BE WAIVED

Due dates for currently checked-out library materials have been extended through June 30, 2020. Since staff are not able to enter the building to check in materials, any books returned will continue to show as "checked out" on your account until the library reopens. Patrons will not be charged overdue fines for any items that had due dates during our library closure. If you receive any notices, including for MeLCat items, please know that the fines will be waived following this closure.

If you have a library account, you should be able to access all of our Digital Library Collections, regardless of any current fines.

4/17/2020: REMOTE LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP

During this time of COVID-19 precautions, we are now allowing Westland residents to remotely sign up for library cards! These new cards will be valid for online resources through June 30th. Once we reopen, stop by with your valid ID and we'll renew your card for another 3 years. Fill out the application form form to get started.

3/24/2020: LIBRARY CARDS RENEWED

To provide more access to our Digital Library Collections, the Library has renewed all expired library cards. If you have ever had an account with us, please check out the many FREE eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and TV shows available using the Download links to the right of this page. Our digital collections can be accessed at home 24/7. Reminder: Your PIN defaults to the last four digits of the phone number we have on file for you.

3/13/2020: The Library is Closed

The Library will close Friday March 13, 2020, at 5:00 PM in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in our community.

HOLDS

Don't worry about any items that are being held for you. If you have an item on hold and you can’t pick it up, it will be waiting for you when we reopen. If you have placed a hold, you will maintain your place in line!

RETURNING MATERIALS

Don’t worry about returning or renewing your materials before we close! We prefer you return your materials when we reopen. Our drop boxes will be closed. You will not incur any late fines during this period!

Don't worry about the items you have checked out. We are in the process of changing all due dates to April 30 for now—including MeLCat! Please don't return any items you have to the drop box until we reopen.

REQUESTS

You'll still be able to place requests during the closure, but no items will be pulled to fill requests during the closure. Because MeL has been shut down statewide, you will not be able to place requests for items from other libraries.

CHECK OUT OUR ONLINE SERVICES!

The Library’s online services will continue to be available for cardholders, including our vast collection of digital materials such as eBooks, eMagazines, downloadable audiobooks and streaming movies, music and television shows, as well as research tools for online learning. Please visit www.westlandlibrary.org/download.

WHAT ABOUT THE STAFF?

All staff are being paid throughout this closure.
