Neal Shusterman

15 year old Connor finds out that he has been sentenced by his parents to be unwound.  It is a future where after a war over abortion was fought, a gruesome compromise was made.   No one is allowed to get an abortion, however all births can be retroactively "undone" through a process called unwinding between the ages of 13 to 17.  An unwind does not technically die, because they have found a way to recycle every human tissue and organ into another human being.  Unwinds are then said to live on, but in a "divided state."  Connor soon meets up with other runaway Unwinds and they must work together to escape and fight the tyrannous unwinding system.  If they can make it to age 18 they will be safe.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner
The Maze Runner
James Dashner

I thought the writing was horrendous at first, but once I got into the story it became very easy to ignore all of Dashner's over use of annoying adjectives. It is easy to get swept into the mystery of why Thomas and 60 other teenage boys have woken up with no memory at different times to find themselves locked into a gigantic maze with a glade in the middle. No one has been able to solve the maze yet, but the gladers as they call themselves are determined to find a way out. Then an unconscious girl arrives in their weekly supply box telling them that there will be no more supplies and that she was the last person who would be joining their group.
