Kids' Happenings

Fans of the movie "Frozen" will be flocking to the library on Monday, February 16th to meet Queen Elsa. We expect over 250 children and their caregivers to attend the festivities between 2 - 4 p.m. on that day. Parking may be difficult during that time and all patrons are encouraged to use the back parking lot (by the Veterans Memorial Garden) if the front parking lots are full.
Looking for tips on using library e-resources and learning about new apps and websites for your kids? The Youth Department has a new "e-Corner" located in our Picture Book section (near our "100 Books Every Child Should Read Before School" display). Stop by the bi-monthly display to learn safe and educational ways to integrate technology into your child's life.

The Youth Department announces the acquisition of two Early Literacy Stations™ (ELS) from AWE. These comprehensive educational computers are loaded with over 70 educational software programs for kids ages 2–8, covering curriculum areas like reading, language arts, math, science, and more.
Some of the great applications on AWE’s Early Literacy Station™ include: SpongeBob SquarePants Typing; Giggles Kids My Musical World/ABCs and 123s; Math Doodles; Sesame Street; Know Your USA; Miss Humblebee’s Academy; and, Speakaboos interactive storybooks.
Children and their caregivers are encouraged to visit the Youth Department to learn more about these one-of-a-kind learning tools. These Early Literacy Stations are made possible by donations from the Friends of the Westland Library and the Rotary Club of Westland.
