Library Card Types

Residents

Getting a library card is fast and simple! Come into the library with your valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID with a Westland address and visit the Circulation Desk where our staff can get you started!

Recently moved to Westland and don’t have an updated driver’s license or state ID with you? You can still get a library card! Just bring a form of acceptable documentation with a picture ID. We consider acceptable documentation to be one of the following, issued within the last 30 days, unless otherwise specified:

  • A utility or credit card bill issued within the last 30 days – electronic documents are accepted
  • An account statement from a bank or other financial institution issued within the last 30 days – electronic documents are accepted
  • Michigan high school, college, or university report cards or transcripts
  • Mortgage, lease, or rental agreement
  • Pay stub or earnings statement issued with the name and address of the employee
  • Life, health, auto, or home insurance policy
  • Current federal, state, or local government documents including receipts, property tax, title, deed, licenses, or assessments
  • Michigan title and registration with current address

Nonresidents

Nonresidents are able to visit our library and access the majority of our collection with a library card from your home library. The Library Network (TLN) and MILibraryCard holders can stop by the Circulation Desk with their home library card and Michigan driver’s license or state ID to get started at our library.

Temporary Card

If you do not have a library card for your home library and it is part of TLN, or you are a Westland resident who can’t prove residency at the moment, you can get a 30-day temporary card from the Circulation Desk. This gives you the ability to check out up to two items and have access to our computers for only 30 days. In this time, you are encouraged to obtain a card from your home library. Once the temporary card expires in 30 days, you are not eligible for another temporary card.

Digital Access Card

If you live in or attend school in Westland and are interested in temporary access to our digital resources, you can apply online for a digital access card! This gives you 30 days to check out our digital library and all of the resources that we provide.

If you are interested in our online-only digital access card, please fill out an application and we will do our best to get back to you within 72 hours.

Youth and Teen Card

Are you under 18 and are interested in your very own library card? It’s pretty simple to get one!

Any Westland resident under the age of 18 can visit the Circulation Desk accompanied by a parent or guardian to fill out an application form. The parent or guardian will have to present a valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID with a Westland address. Guardians will have to provide Proof of Guardianship as well.

You can fill out the library card application form before coming to the library! Find our youth and teen library card application form below.
