Expansion & Renovation
We have reopened to the public and resumed regular hours. We are so glad to welcome you back to the renovated building. Please stop by and check it out!
What’s New
Facility Improvements
We installed brand-new flooring throughout the library, including new carpet, tile and vinyl. We have also added sound-dampening measures in every area for patron comfort.
New Amenities
We added an all gender restroom and a new water fountain with a dedicated water bottle filler. There is now a vending area near our entrance with drink and snack machines and space nearby for patrons to sit and observe the library grounds. Outside, there is a new patio beyond the fireplace.
New and Expanded Seating
Our library is now home to a wide range of seating options. Accompanying our original tables and chairs are more plush and comfortable chairs for people to sit, read, and work in quiet spaces.
New Meeting Rooms
We’ve expanded the number of meeting rooms from three to eight. Our meeting rooms, available for reservations over the phone or through our website, are spacious enough for small groups of five to six, with one extra-large room available for groups of up to 30.
Library of Things
We are proud to introduce the latest addition to our ever-growing collection, the Library of Things! If you were ever interested in delving into a hobby but found the price for entry daunting, we now provide an assortment of physical items available for checkout.
New Computers
New PCs with the latest edition of Windows and upgraded monitors have been installed in the public area so patrons can now enjoy a faster and more reliable computer experience.
New Dedicated Space
Our teen area has moved and doubled in size, providing an ample, modern space for teens to enjoy. We have twice the number of computers teens can use for gaming, homework, collaborative work and more. Teens are invited to hang out in our new comfy chairs and relax in the newly enclosed room.
Gaming Area
Teens can get together and play on popular consoles in our new gaming area. They can choose games from our collection or bring their own to play.
Things to Do
Teens can stop by the teen cart for coloring supplies, puzzles, miniature games and activity sheets. We are here to support teens with our supply of markers, rulers, calculators, glue and other school supplies available upon request.
Ask the teen librarians for our popular board games and card games available to play in the Teen Area with friends!
Expanded Space
The youth area offers several new reading areas for kids and parents to enjoy, with room to spare for kids to play and parents to relax and enjoy time with their children. We have more study areas for children and remodeled computer carrels, too!
Youth Program Room
The youth area now has a new, larger youth program room! Designed from the ground up, this room gives our youth librarians an exclusive space to provide a broader range of events for children, both big and small.
Creative Play Area
Our new creative play area provides a space for kids to play together, build, and explore with a large variety toys. Children can use their imagination in the new play kitchen or put on puppet shows and plays in front of a comfortable seating area.
Construction Project Q&A
Our renovation and expansion initiative entailed several changes. These included a dedicated program room for youth, state-of-the-art meeting rooms, additional study spaces, an expanded Teen Area and an inviting outdoor courtyard. Additionally, improvements throughout the building, including enhanced acoustics, contributed to an even better library experience.
Funding for this ambitious project came from two primary sources: money allocated from the 2016 library expansion and upgrade initiative and funds saved during the pandemic. The library’s prudent financial planning ensured the realization of these improvements.
No, the operating millage from summer 2022 serves a different purpose and was not used for the renovation project. The project is entirely financed through pandemic savings and the funds allocated from the 2016 project.
While the library was temporarily closed, we strategically relocated operations to Marshall School during construction to expedite the renovation timeline. The first closure started in late November 2022 and extended until January 2023, while the second closure period spanned from July 2023 until October 2023.
The construction commenced in October 2022 and concluded by October 2023.
The construction management was led by the Dailey Company. TMP Architecture and Library Design Associates were responsible for the architecture and design aspects, while Plante Moran Cresa oversaw the project management.
