Courtesy Reminders

The library is now able to send out courtesy notices to help remind patrons of when their items are due.  They will be sent 3 days before an item is due.  These notices are by email only so if you would like to receive them please make sure that we have a current email address on file.  You can do this at the Reference or Circulation Desk.

Whether you receive email notices or not, please remember it is your responsibility to return or renew your items on time.

Reading Help for Adults

Do you know an adult who has difficulty reading? They aren't alone. In the United States there are 30 million adults who can’t read well enough to understand a newspaper article at the eighth grade level or fill out a job application. We are currently recruiting tutors to start an adult literacy program at the library. Please stop by the reference desk or give us a call at 734-326-6123 and ask for Kristy.

Happy Valentine's Day from the Westland Public Library

Curious about the history of Valentine's Day? Though there are many theories as to the origin of the holiday, Valentine's Day has been celebrated since long before greeting card companies began creating their own special days gift-giving occasions ("Hallmark Holidays").  To learn more about the history of Valentine's day, check out the History Channel's Valentine's Day page containing the three most widely-accepted origin tales (Saint Valentine was a priest who was executed for marrying soldiers to their sweethearts, he was a priest who saved Christians from Roman prisons, or he was a prisoner who sent love letters to the woman who visited him during his confinement) and related articles and videos.
